THE FEASTS OF GOD - #7 "The Feast (Day) of Atonement"

Sep 27, 2026  •  Pastor Mark Geer

Our series on The Feasts of God continues today with an in depth look at the holy convocations God called Israel to observe as a nation in Leviticus 23.  These are prophetic feasts foreshadowing the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer, and Savior of mankind.

In today’s message Pastor Mark Geer explores the Feast Day of Atonement, which is also known as Yom Kippur or “The Day of Judgment!” It is the most holy day on Israel’s calendar and the most solemn feast day of their worship as it reminds them of the judgment required to deal with their sins.

In today’s message Pastor Mark guides us through three perspectives in looking at the Day of Atonement:

1) Perspective #1 – From the Old Testament

2) Perspective #2 – From the New Testament

3) Perspective #3 – From the Second Coming of Christ

In this study Pastor Mark shows the historical background to the Feast Day of Atonement with the Hebrew people and the instructions given to Moses regarding the sacrifices required and the practice of confessing Israel’s sins over the scapegoat and releasing it into the wilderness to bear their sins. From the New Testament perspective we see that Jesus Christ fulfilled the first aspect of the Day of Atonement in that He not only gave His life in sacrifice for our atonement before God, but he bore our sins by taking our place our our scapegoat. However, other aspects of the Day of Atonement yet remain to be fulfilled, which will happen in several phases at the Second Coming of Christ. They relate to the judgment of mankind and the salvation of Israel. Those phases can be examined this way:

1) Phase #1 – The Great Tribulation & the Battle of Armageddon

2) Phase #2 – The End of the Millennial Reign & the Battle of Gog & Magog

3) Phase #3 – The Great White Throne & The Final Judgment of All Mankind

4) Phase #4 – The Salvation of All Israel
