THE FEASTS OF GOD - #4 "The Feast of Firstfruits"

Our series on The Feasts of God continues today with an in depth look at the holy convocations God called Israel to observe as a nation in Leviticus 23.  These are prophetic feasts foreshadowing the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer, and Savior of mankind. 

In today’s message Pastor Mark Geer explores the Feast of Firstfruits. This feast of God has an amazing historical and agricultural background as Israel was instructed to keep this feast in both Exodus 23 and Leviticus 23, but not until they actually had arrived in the Promised Land and were able to harvest their first crop. This feast challenged the Israelites, and we today as well, to bring to God the best of what we have and live in faith and obedience before Him with grateful hearts. 

The Feast of Firstfruits though is a prophetic feast, as are the other feasts of God. This feast speaks not only of a future harvest, but of Christ’s resurrection – being the first to rise from the dead, never to die again! The Apostle Paul then links believers in Jesus with His promise of future resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15:20-26 where he states that “Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep… each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming!” What incredible promise we have in celebrating the Feast of Firstfruits!
