THE FEASTS OF GOD - #8 "The Feast of Tabernacles" (Part 2)
Our series on The Feasts of God continues today with an in depth look at the holy convocations God called Israel to observe as a nation in Leviticus 23. These are prophetic feasts foreshadowing the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer, and Savior of mankind.
In today’s message Pastor Mark Geer explores the incredible Feast of Tabernacles which is also known by several other names, including:
1) “The Feast of Ingathering” (It was the last celebration of the summer harvest and the close of the agricultural season).
2) “The Feast of Sukkot” or “Booths” (As Israel built temporary booths, known as Sukkahs, out of palm branches and other limbs and dwelt in them for seven days to commemorate God’s presence among them and protection and provision for them in their 40 years of wilderness wanderings after they departed from Egypt.)
In this 2-part message Pastor Mark guides us through three perspectives in looking at the Feast of Tabernacles:
1) Perspective #1 – From the Old Testament
2) Perspective #2 – From the New Testament
3) Perspective #3 – At the Millennial Reign of Christ & Beyond
In Part Two of this study Pastor Mark shows reviews briefly the historical background to the Feast of Tabernacles with the Hebrew people and the instructions given to Moses regarding this week-long JOYOUS celebration, the sacrifices and offerings to be given, and the dwelling in temporary booths during the festivity.
He also briefly touches on the New Testament perspective of this feast reminding us of the two great ceremonies observed in Jesus’ day around the Temple of Jerusalem:
1) The Water Libation Ceremony
2) The Temple Lighting Ceremony
In each of these ceremonies we see how Jesus, after He had personally gone up to the Feast of Tabernacles Himself, made powerful spiritual statements proclaiming Himself to be “The Water of Life” and “The Light of the World!” This fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and symbolisms, as well as pointing forward to the ultimate fulfillment of this feast during the Millennial Kingdom and Beyond when Jesus Christ comes to enact the New Eternal Age! This becomes the primary focus of this second message (Part 2) on the Feast of Tabernacles.
